Alma Media to combine printing and distribution into one business unit

Alma Media Corporation   Press release   November 4, 2009 at 12 noon
Alma Media has decided to reorganise its printing and distribution operations by combining them into a new Group-level service unit. The reorganisation concerns Alma Media’s three newspaper printing units in Tampere, Pori and Rovaniemi, as well as the early-morning delivery company Aamujakelu Oy operating in the Pirkanmaa province, the Kemi-Tornio region and the Pori region. The new business unit is expected to start operating on January 1, 2010.
Ms Helvi Liukkaala, now Director of Aamulehti’s printing house, Managing Director of Aamujakelu Oy as well as the head of the Printing and Distribution chains at Alma Media, has been appointed head of the new service unit.
– The central objective of the change is to ensure cost-efficiencies in the printing and distribution of Alma Media and its printed products by producing or buying, as well as selling services ourselves. We will also be able to improve productivity and create new opportunities for cooperation in printing and distribution in the media business, says Ms Liukkaala.
At present, Alma Media’s printing houses operate under the publishing companies Kustannus Oy Aamulehti, Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy and Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy. Alma Media’s early-morning delivery company Aamujakelu Oy is part of Kustannus Oy Aamulehti. The legal, operational and reporting structure of the new organisation will be built and decided during this autumn. The reorganisation will not have an immediate effect on personnel.
