Markus Pirttijoki new Editor-in-Chief for Kainuun Sanomat

MARKUS PIRTTIJOKI NEW EDITOR-IN-CHIEF FOR KAINUUN SANOMAT

Mr Markus Pirttijoki, 37, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief for Kainuun Sanomat, a newspaper published by Alma Media. Mr Pirttijoki’s previous position was news editor at the TV station MTV3. He will start in his new post on May 1, 2013.

Before his job as news editor, Mr Pirttijoki worked at MTV3 as economic and political correspondent. Before that, he was Kauppalehti’s correspondent for economic news, as well as editor, news producer and news anchor for the joint business TV news of Kauppalehti and MTV3.

Mr Pirttijoki, himself originally from the Kainuu province, started his career as staff writer at the local paper Kuhmolainen in 1994. He joined Aamulehti in spring 1997 and completed the Aamulehti Academy. Mr Pirttijoki worked at Aamulehti as a news and economic correspondent, and several years in Aamulehti’s Helsinki editorial office.
-Kainuun Sanomat looks after the good of the entire province, bringing together the people in the region and building a better Kainuu. I’m excited about this new post that allows me to use my experience from both newspapers and electronic media. This is also a great opportunity to return to Kainuu, says Mr Pirttijoki.

The present Editor-in-Chief of Kainuun Sanomat, Mr Matti Piirainen, will retire in summer 2013 when he reaches the age of 63. Mr Piirainen is the Editor-in-Chief of Kainuun Sanomat since 1995.
