Personnel negotiations at Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus and Porin Sanomat of Alma Media finished

PERSONNEL NEGOTIATIONS AT SATAKUNNAN KIRJATEOLLISUUS AND PORIN SANOMAT OF ALMA MEDIA FINISHED

Statutory personnel negotiations at Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy and Porin Sanomat Oy, both subsidiaries of Alma Media, have been completed. The negotiations, that started in February and covered all employees of the companies, concerned the planned reorganisation and rationalisation of the companies. In the beginning of the negotiations, it was estimated that the number of employees may decrease by 20 man-years maximum. As a result of the negotiations, the number of employees at Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy will decrease by 18 man-years.

At the end of the negotiations, ten persons (ten man-years) employed by Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy are under threat of redundancy. The company can offer substitutive jobs for two persons. The number of persons to be laid off is lower than initially anticipated, because seven persons (six man-years) agreed with the employer on financial support package. Additionally, expiring fixed-term work contracts represent a reduction of four man-years.

The job reductions fall primarily on technical lay out team, information service, image processing, customer service and advertising traffic department. Advertising sales function and entirely journalistic positions will not be impacted.

The editorial staff will be reorganised, aiming to further differentiate the printed newspaper and its online service and to strengthen the focus on local issues. Among other measures, the editorial staff will establish an online team, a fast-working group and a team focusing on Satakunta region. The operations of customer service, advertising traffic and technical layout will be reorganised to a joint service unit for subscribers and advertisers. The objective of the reorganisation is to increase the competitiveness of Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus and Porin Sanomat also in the future.

Satakunnan Kirjateollisuus Oy, the publishing company of Satakunnan Kansa regional newspaper and Porin Sanomat Oy employed approximately 130 persons in 2010.
