Lead Data Engineer

Do you want to work on next-generation data products in a modern product company? We are looking for a developer with strong knowledge of modern software and data development processes to join Alma's Business Insights product development team. We operate in several smaller development teams and our business is growing, so we hope you already have experience and vision for building versatile data infrastructure.

We build company data services, APIs and integrations for enterprise customers – and we own the whole journey from development to deployment. Our clients are B2B companies looking to make smarter decisions and grow their business using data insights. You'll get to work with both our internal data and data from our partners.

About the Role and What You'll Bring

We have interesting challenges for an experienced developer who builds reliable solutions and works well in a team environment. You should have a degree in computer science, IT, or a related field, plus hands-on experience building software solutions. We're looking for someone who's analytical, adaptable, and ready to tackle complex problems. Depending on your interest and experience, the role may also include management responsibilities as we grow. What will help you succeed in this role:

  • Expertise in data development, especially Python (Pandas, Polars, Boto3, Requests), SQL (Redshift, PostgreSQL), S3, Poetry/uv
  • Experience utilizing cloud services, especially AWS
  • Experience with databases and APIs, especially General Datawarehousing/Datamodeling, Orchestrating (Airflow/DBT), Containers (Docker)
  • Understanding and interest in developing MLOps practices and AI solutions (SageMaker, MLflow)
  • Ability to learn new things and interest in staying current with industry trends and evolving technologies
  • Good teamwork skills and drive to solve challenging problems

We have flexible working hours and leave policies. Work is done in multiple locations, both remotely and in the office. The office is located in the center of Helsinki in the Alma building, on the edge of Töölönlahti park, with good transport connections.
