Navigating the regulatory maze with ease
DOKS is a digital solution for anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions screening, and customer and business partner due diligence. It has grown into a significant service with thousands of users. Every month, the platform processes tens of thousands of identity verifications and information requests, while performing millions of sanctions screening checks.
DOKS is part of the broader compliance solutions market, helping organisations prevent money laundering and terrorist financing while supporting good governance and adherence to ethical business practices.

“DOKS’ growth is driven by structural market trends and deep regulatory expertise across both product development and customer engagement. Regulation continues to tighten, and stakeholder expectations regarding responsibility and transparency are increasing. Companies are increasingly looking for solutions that improve efficiency, enhance customer experience, and allow experts to focus on cases where human judgement is genuinely needed. The service leverages advanced data and automation technologies, and the role of AI is growing particularly in data analysis and risk identification,” says Sanna Holopainen, Business Director responsible for company information services at Alma Insight.
Delivering tangible value to customers
DOKS automates anti-money laundering compliance processes as extensively as possible. Customer identification can be carried out globally, and the solution automatically generates customer-specific risk assessments based on risk indicators defined by the customer, taking into account factors such as industry-specific and country risks. Monitoring of PEP and sanctions lists is continuous.
The service helps organisations manage partner risks and ensure responsible supply chains. Screening partner networks would otherwise be highly labour-intensive, given the tens of thousands of sanctioned entities and individuals listed across numerous sources.
The solution is modular, enabling customers either to manage their entire compliance process through a single platform or to use individual functionalities such as sanctions screening. In addition, the built-in whistleblowing channel helps organisations meet reporting obligations under relevant EU directives.
Expanding market opportunities
DOKS has grown from Finland’s leading AML and compliance solution into an international SaaS platform used in more than ten countries. It serves a broad range of regulated industries, from banking and financial services to law firms, accounting firms and large enterprises managing extensive supplier and partner networks. While a significant proportion of customers are small businesses, a substantial share of revenue comes from larger organisations with extensive compliance requirements. High customer retention, growing usage rates and applicability across multiple industries are among the service’s key strengths.
Customer identification and compliance processes are most advanced in Finland, the other Nordic countries and the Baltics, but DOKS is also gradually expanding into new markets.
The Swedish launch initiated in 2026 has progressed rapidly. In the early stages, the focus has been on understanding the market and competitive landscape, building brand awareness and local partnerships, and achieving concrete commercial results. As the business matures, operations will be scaled based on experience and customer demand. Growth is supported by tightening regulation, increasing sanctions and due diligence requirements, and organisations’ need to automate compliance processes. At the same time, DOKS continues to invest in new automation, AI and integration capabilities that help customers meet regulatory obligations more efficiently.
“We have also developed solutions for collecting ESG-related information across partner networks. However, the Omnibus regulatory package significantly reduced reporting obligations, and for many companies the requirements disappeared entirely. Even so, we are well positioned to scale the business as market demand grows. The underlying challenges that regulation seeks to address, such as human rights violations and climate change, have not disappeared, and we want to continue contributing to a more responsible business environment,” Holopainen adds.
Regulation drives demand
Finland’s Anti-Money Laundering Act came into force in 2017, and DOKS acquired its first customers in 2019. Today, the obligations apply across a wide range of industries, and the majority of companies subject to AML requirements use DOKS.
“There are still many companies in Finland that do not fully comply with the law, often unintentionally. Regulatory supervision has increased, and administrative penalties have become substantial. The regulatory landscape is constantly evolving, and revised EU anti-money laundering legislation will come into effect next year. Sanctions regulation and efforts to combat financial crime and the grey economy are further increasing compliance requirements, supporting long-term demand for compliance solutions that play an important role in society,” Holopainen concludes.
Founded in Turku in 2014, Suomen Tunnistetieto Oy launched the DOKS service in 2019. Alma Media acquired an initial 25% minority stake in the company in 2021 and increased its ownership to 100% in spring 2025. The company was fully merged into Alma Media in spring 2026 and now forms part of the Alma Insights business within the Alma Marketplaces segment.
This article is part of Alma Media’s The Sum of Its Parts series, which explores the company’s products, services and value creation, highlighting how the Group’s value is built through strong and complementary businesses. DOKS strengthens this portfolio as a scalable digital B2B service whose growth is supported by tighter regulation, increasing automation needs and rising corporate compliance requirements. At the same time, it adds a data-, technology- and expertise-driven business to Alma Media’s portfolio, creating measurable value for customers.
