Iltalehti and Uusi Suomi to combine their editorial teams

Alma Media Corporation                           Press release                          20 May 2026

ILTALEHTI AND UUSI SUOMI TO COMBINE THEIR EDITORIAL TEAMS

Iltalehti and the online publication Uusi Suomi, both part of Alma Media, will combine their online services in autumn 2026. Uusi Suomi’s political and international content, as well as its Puheenvuoro blog platform, will be integrated into Iltalehti and its digital Plus Extra service. Subscribers will be contacted individually during the autumn, and no action is required from them.

Following the integration, Iltalehti will strengthen its offering in political and societal journalism. Uusi Suomi will continue within the Iltalehti service as a dedicated section, bringing together societal news content and the Puheenvuoro blog platform.

According to the National Media Survey, Iltalehti reaches approximately 2.7 million people in Finland each week, while Uusi Suomi reaches around 400,000.

“The integration of the editorial teams brings together the expertise of two editorial teams and strengthens Iltalehti’s offering in political and societal journalism. Public discussion has increasingly shifted to international platforms, and we see it as important to develop domestic forums for debate,” says Perttu Kauppinen, Editor-in-Chief of Iltalehti.

According to Jenni Tamminen, Editor-in-Chief of Uusi Suomi, the change will expand the reach of the Puheenvuoro blog platform.

“Puheenvuoro will continue to operate as before, but bloggers can reach a significantly larger audience than before,” says Tamminen.

Impact on subscribers and bloggers

Uusi Suomi subscriptions will be automatically converted into subscriptions for the Iltalehti Plus Extra service in connection with the integration. The change does not require any action from subscribers, who will be contacted individually.

Following the integration, subscribers will have access to the Iltalehti Plus Extra service, which includes Iltalehti Plus articles, digital replicas and special publications, as well as content from the Bitti service and digital editions of Mikrobitti and Retrobitti magazines.

The Puheenvuoro blog platform will continue to operate as before. Further details on the timetable and implementation of the change will be communicated in autumn 2026.

Iltalehti was founded in October 1980 as the evening edition of Uusi Suomi. The publication of Uusi Suomi as a daily newspaper ended in 1991, and the brand was relaunched as an online publication in 2007. Both are now part of the Alma Media Group.
