Alma’s Leadership Promises Build Shared Leadership Culture

In the beginning of this year, new Leadership Promises were created at Alma to ensure that every Alma employee receives high-quality leadership that moves us towards achieving our common strategic goals. The leadership promises are summarized around three core themes: clarity, engagement, and results.

The quality of leadership directly impacts employee well-being, motivation, engagement and satisfaction. Therefore, it plays a key role also in the success of the entire company.

”The quality of leadership is one of the biggest factors influencing overall work well-being. At Alma, we want to invest in developing leadership and ensure that every Alma employee receives high-quality leadership that aligns with our values and, for example, our employer value proposition”, says Alma Media’s HRD Henna Järvinen.

Alma’s new leadership promises were finalized in early spring.

”It is also important to offer tools to the managers themselves. Every leader has their own style and brings their personality to the management work, but through the shared leadership promises, a touch of common Alma culture is also brought to every leader’s work”, Henna continues.

All employees involved in defining the leadership promises

All Alma employees had the opportunity to influence the leadership promises. At the beginning of the project, every employee was able to express what kind of leadership they expect and what kind of leadership supports the achievement of Alma’s strategic goals.

From these responses, three themes emerged, on which the promises were built: clarity, engagement, and results.

The promises have been finalized together with Alma’s managers. Alma’s finished leadership promises are:

CLARITY: I clearly understand our company’s strategy and translate that into focused actions, priorities, and roles for my team.

ENGAGEMENT: I empower my team by promoting accountability, recognizing their achievement and leading by example.

RESULTS: I drive results by prioritizing customer needs, executing with excellence, making bold decisions and embracing continuous learning.
