For Sujan Alma Media is a place for innovation and growth
In the past years Alma Media has taken steps to enable recruiting international talent to its Finnish teams. A forerunner in this path has been Alma’s popular Developer & Designer Program into which Alma recruited its first non-Finnish speaking employees two years ago.
Now there are about a dozen non-Finnish speaking employees working in Alma’s Finnish offices. One of them is Sujan Shrestha, who came to Alma through last year’s Developer & Designer Program.
– While exploring job opportunities in Finland, I already knew and used many of Alma’s products, like Iltalehti, NettiAuto, VuokraOvi, Nettimökki, and Jobly. I was impressed by how user-friendly those platforms are, so when I came across the Alma Developer & Designer Program, it immediately caught my attention, tells Sujan.
Before joining Alma Media, Sujan had a positive image of the company through its innovative products and services. Working at Alma has improved the image even further.
– The more I’ve worked here, the more I’ve come to appreciate the company’s culture of collaboration and innovation. I’ve really enjoyed being part of a team of supportive colleagues who encourage personal growth.
Free education and strong reputation in technology brought Sujan to Finland
Sujan is originally from Nepal and moved to Finland to pursue higher education. He has completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and continued studies towards a Master’s degree.
– Before arriving, I already knew some cool things about Finland, like Linux, Nokia, Moomin, Angry Birds, KONE, Fiskars Scissors and many more.
– Interesting thing is, I grew up watching the Moomin cartoons in Nepali version, played the classic Nokia Snake game, and of course, later enjoyed Angry Birds. So, when I finally came to Finland, it felt like I was stepping into the world I’d already known through these iconic names!
Developer & Designer Program led to a permanent job at Alma
Now Sujan works permanently as Junior Software Developer in Alma’s ICT team. He describes Alma’s culture as dynamic and team oriented.
– Alma is a place where innovation is encouraged, and everyone is supported in their personal and professional growth. I appreciate how open and collaborative the environment is, and there’s a strong focus on work-life balance, wellbeing, and sustainability.
Sujan has also been impressed how AI tools are integrated into use at Alma, and how employees are encouraged to use and utilize them.
– One thing I didn’t expect was how quickly AI has been integrated into our work. It’s exciting to see how technology is playing such an important role in our daily tasks, opening my eyes to AI’s potential in the workplace.
He recommends the Alma Media for people who are passionate about learning, working on impactful projects, and growing in a supportive environment.
