Alma Manu was again successful in an international newspaper quality competition

Alma Media Corporation     Press release      5 June 2014 at 14:15 p.m. (EEST)

Alma Media’s print and distribution company Alma Manu Oy has again obtained membership of the Quality Club of World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) for the years 2014-2016.

Membership of the WAN-IFRA Quality Club is the internationally most prestigious acknowledgment of a newspaper printer’s production quality. Members of the Quality Club are chosen through the Newspaper Color Quality Club (INCQC) competition. This year, 165 printed products from all over the world participated in the competition and 76 publishers or printing presses from 26 different countries made it to the Quality Club.

Alma Manu’s Tampere printing press took part in the competition for the third time, this time with the Satakunnan Kansa newspaper.  Previous memberships were achieved with Aamulehti (2012) and Kauppalehti (2010).

“Making it to the Quality Club already for the third time proves that our work on excellent print quality is bearing fruit. Alma Manu’s new printing press in Tampere was taken into use in the spring of 2013, and it was Alma Media’s largest individual investment last year. The papers we submitted for the competition were from our normal production so they describe our daily good quality,” states Helvi Liukkaala, Managing Director of Alma Manu.

The membership of INCQC required meeting the WAN-IFRA quality criteria in measured and general print quality during the application process that lasted from January to March. A panel consisting of international experts judged factors such as the correctness of tones, sharpness and balance. A total of 15 quality variables were judged on one page. Alma Manu was particularly successful in accuracy of colour conformity and colour register.
