Alma Media’s trademark EU-registered

The Finnish Board of Patents and Registration has given public notice of the Etuovi trademark in its Tavaramerkki (Trademark) gazette published today, 30 March 2007, for the purposes of claim and counterclaim. An application for this trademark has been made by Hitbeat, a business name owned by a Mr Jori-Pekka Träsbäck. Hitbeat operates in an entirely different field from Alma Media and the now published registration applies to the word Etuovi itself and not the trademark
The company has been aware that the matter is proceeding as described. Any oppositions must be filed in writing within two months, i.e. by 30 May 2007. Alma Media will consider filing an opposition against registration by this deadline.
Alma Media registered as an EU trademark on 13 May 2004. The company also owns the registered internet domain name. is a widely known online home-buying service that has been in operation since 2001, before which it was known under the name of Dime. Dime was established on 1 October 1996.
The company has no reason to suppose that the widely known trademark would not be regarded as an established trademark of the company.
