A versatile Work Experience week at Alma taught new things not learned in school
Six middle school students from schools in the Helsinki metropolitan area participated in Alma Media’s work experience (TET) week in fall 2024.
Here’s what they said about their week:
“During the TET week, we got to know marketing, product development, sales, sustainability, the work of a journalist, and media literacy. We also visited the Finnish Parliament, where we had the opportunity to talk with two members of Parliament and an official.
For the week, we were given a project assignment for our group. The task was to search for information about artificial intelligence during the week and compile a presentation. Among other things, we interviewed Alma Media employees about how they use artificial intelligence in their work tasks.
Everyone thought the week was very diverse and interesting. We learned a lot of new things that you don’t learn and see in school. It was nice to hear about many things, but some topics were a bit boring. We noticed that Alma Media has very friendly and positive employees. The week was very rewarding, and we got a very good impression of Alma Media as a workplace. Our good group and food were also plusses during the week. We are grateful that we got to get to know Alma Media.”
Nine Alma employees served as guides for the students.
At Alma, the tools for TET weeks include ready-made week schedule and employment contract templates, as well as application handling according to the regular recruitment process. Standardized operating models make it easy to replicate and develop the TET weeks.
– At Alma, work experience weeks are important to us, as we want to offer equal and diverse opportunities to get to know working life. Young people are the future employees, so it is important to give them ways to explore different career options and find their own interests, says Alma’s Brand & Sustainability Manager Minna Kemppainen and continues,
– We want to offer the students a diverse week, so we strive to comprehensively showcase different experts and our brands in the program. Trainees are always asked for feedback and we develop future TET weeks based on the feedback.
Alma typically organizes its own TET periods for multiple students 1-2 times a year. Applications for Alma’s TET periods are made through the TET.fi service.
TET.fi is a service that brings together open TET positions across Finland. The service is intended for both young people looking for work experience opportunities and companies offering positions. The TET.fi service is developed by the Children and Youth Foundation in collaboration with Alma Media and Jobly.
Is your company also involved in building the working life of the future, make sure you are also offering TET possibilities!
You can find tools, materials, and other tips for organizing a TET week at TET.fi. You can also open your TET position for applications in the same place.
