Alma Media develops business around sustainability – this is how companies benefit

Alma Media is committed to sustainability not only by developing its own operations but also by creating services that enable other companies to have means to promote their own sustainability goals, comply with regulatory requirements, enhance their reporting, and make more sustainable business decisions. When these solutions scale through customers across different industries, the impact extends widely throughout society.

Alma builds business on sustainability by offering its customers digital services that enable companies advance their own sustainability objectives and meet the demands of changing legislation. Alma thus not only develops its own operations to be more sustainable but also provides its customers with practical tools that turn sustainability into a competitive advantage and a resource for long-term growth.

“Our aim is to accelerate sustainable growth for individuals, companies, and society. We strive to develop solutions that enable our customers to make responsible decisions and build businesses that are resilient for the future”, describes Minna Kemppainen, Alma Media’s Brand and Sustainability Manager, and continues:

“For us, sustainable growth means continuous development where economic success, environmental consideration, social responsibility, and good business ethics go hand in hand.”

An impact that extends further

Alma offers several services with built-in sustainability features. Consumer-facing services such as Alma’s marketplaces, enable individuals to make informed and sustainable choices. For example, housing and car listings include environmentally based search criteria, and some services provide information about the sustainability practices of different providers. This gives consumers the power to make better decisions in their daily lives.

For corporate customers, Alma offers numerous services that support sustainability work and compliance requirements.

In Finland, these include, among others:

  • Asuntopuntari is a tool for real estate and finance professionals providing reliable and accurate price and risk assessments for properties
  • Climatrix climate risk tool, linked to Asuntopuntari, quantifies and reports physical climate risks for finance, insurance, and real estate sectors, in accordance with EU taxonomy requirements
  • The digital housing transaction system (DIAS) enabling the electronic and secure execution of housing transactions, independent of time and place
  • DOKS AML and Counterparty are designed for good governance and governance risk management, automating anti-money laundering and sanctions monitoring, as well as ESG data collection for reporting purposes

Alma’s recruitment services operating in various European countries work towards an equal and inclusive working life. For example, the Profesia Lab initiative, originating from Slovakia, aims to increase opportunities for disabled workers to enter the work life. This initiative not only empowers individuals but also addresses the Europe-wide labor shortage caused by an aging population.

“Of course, the societal role of our media should not be forgotten. Our journalistic media promote a functioning democracy by providing reliable, timely, and diverse information to citizens. Reliable and independent journalism is the foundation for informed decision-making and a responsible society”, Kemppainen explains.

The value of Alma’s sustainability work lies in its ability to multiply impact. When customer companies use Alma’s services, they advance their own sustainability goals – and the effect cascades to their customers, stakeholders, and society at large.
