Engagement among Alma employees is above the industry benchmark

Alma uses the Alma Voice survey to regularly measure personnel’s commitment, willingness to recommend and satisfaction in different areas of work. According to the survey, Alma’s strengths are, in particular, relationships with co-workers and various aspects of leadership.

The latest Alma Voice round was carried out in April 2025 and 83% of Alma employees responded to the survey. The survey was introduced last year and is in use globally in all of Alma’s operating countries.

– With the Alma Voice survey, we have been able to unify the personnel surveys in different Alma countries. This helps us to compare the results with other companies on an international level as well. In addition, we are able to monitor and report personnel data better than before, says Merja Ristilä, HR Director at Alma Media.

Based on the survey, employee satisfaction and engagement are monitored throughout the year. The results are used to plan and implement development actions across the entire organization and specific business units.

The results also serve as an excellent tool for supervisors to evaluate and develop their own teams.

Alma employees’ engagement at a good level, special strengths are relationships with colleagues and supervisory work

According to the latest employee survey, the engagement level of Alma employees at the corporate level is 7.7 (on scale of 1-10), which is slightly above average compared to other similar companies. We use technology sector companies as our benchmark.

Specific strengths identified in the survey include relationships with colleagues (9.1) and the opportunity to be oneself (8.4).

Additionally, various aspects of supervisory work, such as supervisor openness (8.7), support during change situations (8.5), goal setting (8.5), and employee understanding of their work’s significance to team goals (8.8), are highlighted as strengths.

Improvement areas already addressed

Identified improvement areas from the survey are related to compensation and its transparency, as well as strategy communication.

Efforts to develop compensation processes have already begun, with determined actions being taken across the Alma organization.

More attention will also be paid to strategy communication moving forward. The first step has been creating a new strategy video, where our CEO Kai Telanne explains where Alma is headed, why, and how. You can watch the video on our Investors page.
