ALMA MEDIA AND THE FINNISH CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOUNDATION LAUNCH MULTI-YEAR COOPERATION

Cooperation to focus on making young people’s voices heard

Alma Media and the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation are broadening their cooperation and have agreed on a key partnership for 2016–2018. The goal of the cooperation is to make young people’s voices heard and increase youth participation. Both Alma and the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation want to help young people find their place and purpose in society.

Alma Media and the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation have been working together on various projects since 2010 and have now signed an agreement to expand this cooperation. The cooperation is based on the parties’ shared values and on the added value created for society by doing things together. The agreement includes initiatives to be taken together. The first example of the expanded cooperation is Alma Media’s participation in the Dreams forum on 26 May. At the event, Alma will organise a workshop where young people can learn about news work and producing different kinds of media contents. Alma will also bring young people’s opinions to Alma’s own channels, including the content of the Iltalehti newspaper.

“Alma Media is one of Finland’s leading media company. We want to be involved in building a better tomorrow and sustainable development for Finland and Finnish youth through concrete actions. We want to help young people to build their future, but at the same time, the cooperation provides a fantastic opportunity for us to learn from youth,” says Sanna Forsström, Brand and Corporate Responsibility Manager at Alma Media.

The Finnish Children and Youth Foundation strengthens young people’s life skills and global understanding in Finland and developing countries. Young people from around Finland participate in long-term art activities through the Myrsky programme, research perspectives on work and studies through the Tenho programme, strengthen their working life knowhow in the Skills for Life workshops, and get inspired by the Dreams school visits. In cooperation programmes in Senegal, Kenya and Paraguay, local young people strengthen their professional skills and establish small businesses. All activities are based on the needs of young people in difficult situations and making their voices heard.

“Young people have a huge need to have their voices heard. The task of us adults is to stop and listen to what they have to say and encourage them to find their own potential. We are very happy that Alma Media has genuinely taken on this challenge with us. Together we will show how much young people have to offer to all of society,” says Tuula Colliander, Executive Director of the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation.
