Alma Media Corporation: Statutory personnel negotiations concerning the future of Alma Manu’s Rovaniemi newspaper printing facility concluded

Alma Media Corporation Stock Exchange Release, 26 April 2013 at 4:30 p.m. (EEST)

STATUTORY PERSONNEL NEGOTIATIONS CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF ALMA MANU’S ROVANIEMI NEWSPAPER PRINTING FACILITY CONCLUDED

The statutory personnel negotiations started in January by Alma Media’s printing and distribution company, Alma Manu Oy, concerning the future of its Rovaniemi newspaper printing facility have been concluded. As a result of the negotiations that concerned the entire staff of the Rovaniemi printing facility and mailing department, the company is discontinuing its printing operations in Rovaniemi by the end of March 2014.

The discontinuation of the Rovaniemi printing facility will result in all of the unit’s printing and mailing employees, 23 persons in total, being made redundant. The redundancies will take effect in March 2014. Alma Manu will provide re-employment training and support to the employees affected.

Due to the discontinuation of the print, Alma Media will record a non-recurring cost of approximately EUR 3 million for the second quarter of 2013. This consists mainly of impairment losses of tangible assets.

The decision to close the Rovaniemi printing facility down is due to the company’s general objective of improving the efficiency of printing operations and ensuring its future competitiveness and vitality. The decision on the future printing facility of Alma Media’s printed regionals, Lapin Kansa and Pohjolan Sanomat, as well as several city and local papers will be made during spring. The changes will not have an impact on publications.

-The development of Lapin Kansa as the region’s number one media will continue. Changing the printing facility does not affect the journalistic content or the reader service of Lapin Kansa, Pohjolan Sanomat or other papers printed in Rovaniemi, says Matti Posio, the Editor-in-Chief of Lapin Kansa.

In 2012, Alma Manu employed a total of some 1,090 people in Pirkanmaa, Satakunta and Lapland. Of these, approximately 930 were newspaper delivery employees.
