Alma Media’s Helsinki desk starts today
 
The new Alma Media Helsinki joint editorial desk starts work today. The desk will produce national news for Alma Media’s chain of newspapers, with a focus on political and economic topics and value issues. The newspapers involved are Aamulehti, Kauppalehti, Satakunnan Kansa, Lapin Kansa, Pohjolan Sanomat and Kainuun Sanomat. These newspapers have altogether more than one million readers.
 
“The new unit is a major investment in the Finnish media scene. We now have both the opportunity and the responsibility to create a new journalistic culture to serve the readers of Alma Media’s newspapers,”says Hannu Ollikainen, head of the new Helsinki desk. “The modern approach to reporting on society is to combine political and economic elements and show how they interact. We now have the facilities and experienced, skilled editorial staff to achieve this.”
 
The journalists who will be working at the new editorial desk are Kirsti Pohjonen, Katja Boxberg, Mari Kamaja, Arno Ahosniemi, Alberto Claramunt, Taneli Heikka and Mika Koskinen. The desk will reach its full planned strength of ten persons in autumn 2007.
