ALMA MANU AND HÄMEEN SANOMAT NEWSPAPER AGREE ON PRINTING COOPERATION

Alma Manu Oy, the printing and distribution company of Alma Media, and Hämeen Sanomat Oy have signed a memorandum of understanding on printing cooperation. The printing of the Hämeen Sanomat newspaper is to be transferred to Alma Manu Oy’s new printing facility in Tampere at the beginning of 2014. With the memorandum of understanding, both parties agree to actively promote and ensure the smoothness of the transfer. The objective is to sign the final agreement in the spring of 2013.

The circulation of the Hämeen Sanomat newspaper, which is published in the town of Hämeenlinna, is over 27,700 (LT 2011), and it is published seven times a week. The newspaper, now in broadsheet format, is printed by Hämeen Lehtipaino Oy.

“We are proud that Hämeen Sanomat chose us to be their partner, and we want to commit to long-term cooperation. The new and efficient printing facility of Alma Manu creates the conditions for good partnership, high-quality service and new opportunities, not forgetting environmental issues,” says Helvi Liukkaala, CEO of Alma Manu.

“This solution will increase the cost-efficiency and competitiveness of Hämeen Sanomat and, most importantly of all, Alma Manu’s new printing press will create new opportunities for the productization of print products, adding new amendments and changing the structures of the paper,” says Pauli Uusi-Kilponen, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Hämeen Sanomat.

Alma Manu’s new printing facility will be completed during spring 2013. Efficient printing enables the introduction of whole new kinds of products to the market, and work to install the equipment is underway. Special attention has been paid to environmental issues in the planning of the facility, and LEED environmental certification applies to the building. The new printing press will be built next to the current press in Sarankulma, Tampere.
