The ruling of the Court of Appeal of Helsinki in the case of Johanna Korhonen

Alma Media Corporation                        Press Release                    18 March 2010

THE RULING OF THE COURT OF APPEAL OF HELSINKI IN THE CASE OF JOHANNA KORHONEN

The Court of Appeal of Helsinki has today, March 18, 2010, delivered its decision in the case involving Ms Johanna Korhonen and Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy, an Alma Media company.

In its decision, the Court of Appeal reversed the decision by the District Court in June 2009, according to which Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy had adequate reason to terminate the director contract with Johanna Korhonen, appointed Editor-in-Chief of Lapin Kansa, in October 2008. The Court of Appeal also mostly accepted the claims presented in Johanna Korhonen’s original suite however rejecting her claim concerning the contractual severance compensation.

Alma Media has not terminated the director contract with Johanna Korhonen on the grounds stated by her and does not consider the ruling by the Court of Appeal as fair and just. The company will examine the ruling carefully and consider an application to the Supreme Court for a leave to appeal.
