New editor-in-chief for Kainuun Sanomat

Alma Media Corporation     Press release       December 3, 2012 at 9:00 (EET)

NEW EDITOR-IN-CHIEF FOR KAINUUN SANOMAT

The editorial management of Kainuun Sanomat, a newspaper published by Alma Media, will change in the beginning of May 2013. The paper’s present editor-in-chief, Mr Matti Piirainen, will retire next summer reaching the age of 63.

Mr Piirainen is the editor-in-chief for Kainuun Sanomat since 1995. His career as editor-in-chief spans more than 30 years. Before Kainuun Sanomat, he was editor-in-chief of Koillissanomat and Kuhmolainen, and before that, journalist at the business newspaper Talouselämä, the afternoon paper Ilta-Sanomat, and the nationwide daily Helsingin Sanomat.

Mr Piirainen says that during his tenure as editor-in-chief, the newspaper industry has been through a major structural change that is still continuing. In the near future, the content of newspapers will move from paper to electronic reading devices. Despite this, says Mr Piirainen, the main duty of newspapers will not change: to change each paper’s region and the whole world for the better.

Recruitment for the successor of Matti Piirainen will start immediately.
