Alma Media Corporation   Press release   August 30, 2012 at 9:30 am

ALMA REGIONAL MEDIA, ILKKA AND POHJALAINEN START COOPERATION

Alma Media’s regional and local paper unit Alma Regional Media and the newspapers Ilkka and Pohjalainen, parts of Ilkka-Yhtymä Oyj, will initiate wide-ranging operational collaboration covering content and development. Alma Media Kustannus Oy (Alma Media Publishing Ltd) and I-Mediat Oy signed a letter of intent for the collaboration today.

The collaboration aims at improving the editorial quality of the newspapers, increasing operational efficiencies, accelerating development activities and developing the papers’ editorial reciprocity. The new collaboration is meant to be phased in and be in full operation from the beginning of 2014. The collaboration agreement does not involve ownership issues between Ilkka-Yhtymä Oyj and Alma Media Corporation.

The future collaboration will cover the Helsinki editorial office producing nationwide journalism, the weekend pages and supplements, radio and TV journalism, utility journalism, foreign news service as well as cultural, sports and online journalism. In addition, the agreement includes a wide range of educational and development activities covering journalism as well as the product development of both printed papers and online services.

“This type of collaboration is an important strategic decision that will contribute to the success of the included regional papers in this era of media revolution,” says Jouko Jokinen, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Aamulehti and member of Alma Regional Media’s executive team.
