Alma Regional Media is reorganising its customer service and advertisement production

Alma Media Corporation        Press release                            31 March 2016, 12:00 noon (EET)

ALMA REGIONAL MEDIA IS REORGANISING ITS CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ADVERTISEMENT PRODUCTION

Alma Regional Media is reorganising its customer service and advertisement production functions. The number of employees will be decreased by 28 in customer service and by 9 in advertisement production. A total of 20 employees will be laid off, while 17 employees chose to accept the severance package. The statutory personnel negotiations regarding the impact on employees of the reorganisation were completed today.

Advertisement production at the newspapers of Alma Regional Media will be centralised to three regional units: Lapland, Satakunta and Pirkanmaa. Pirkanmaa will no longer have an advertisement production unit that is dedicated to one newspaper.

Alma Regional Media has already outsourced most of its advertisement production, and the share of subcontracted production will now increase. Advertisement production is one of the functions covered by the statutory personnel negotiations that were started last autumn. At the end of the negotiations, the employer reported a workforce reduction of 70 person-years. The current reduction of 9 persons is already included in the reported figures.

The transformation of the operating environment also requires new ways of working in customer service. Electronic services and self-service tools have become widespread, and new digital media products are also affecting the needs of our customers. The reduction need among customer service employees reported at the start of the statutory personnel negotiations was 34 person-years at most. The negotiations concerned approximately 50 employees.

Alma Regional Media publishes Aamulehti, Satakunnan Kansa, Lapin Kansa/Pohjolan Sanomat as well as local and town papers around Finland. Regional Media also includes the printing press and distribution house Alma Manu Oy.
