Seizing the opportunity gets you ahead
When he was 17, Samir Myllymäki subscribed to the Earn a Thousand campaign intended to familiarise young people with work life, and got a job in the printing house of Aamulehti. He was good at the job, and later on, he was offered an opportunity to get a permanent job.
At the moment, Samir works at Alma’s consolidated printing and distribution service unit, Alma Manu. His job description has changed many times over the years, but the place is still the same, the printing house in the Sarankulma district in Tampere.
In his position as Systems Expert, Samir now works in local support and one of the superusers of the Tampereen Tulostuspalvelukeskus printing service. Tight schedules and high quality requirements guarantee busy working days.
—I find it nice to work here. The working atmosphere is good and I have good colleagues. If you feel like it, though, it’s always possible to work in peace, Samir says.
Samir does not have vocational training. He has learned on the job over the years. Samir says that when you are searching for a job, the most important thing is just to go ahead and do it without too many qualms.
—If you weigh your options too long, the opportunity may pass you by. You can always get out if you don’t like it.
