The year in pictures—voting completed!

The voting for the news photographs presented in Alma Media’s 2008 Annual Report is now completed. Many seem to consider high-quality photo journalism interesting: until the deadline (1 June 2009) in total 1298 people voted for their favorite photos. Alma Media warmly thanks all participants!

All photographs received votes, but the clear favorite was the sympathetic photo taken by Helena Laakso from Pohjolan Sanomat newspaper. The photo of a producer of gold medal milk got 34% of all votes. Photos “A stork’s nest” by Pekka Karhunen of Kauppalehti and “Fire” by Jenni Gästgivar of Satakunnan Kansa ranked second and third in the voting.

Two winners of Sony digital photo frames were drawn from among all voters who sent their entries no later than June 1, 2009. The lucky winners are Ms Päivi Pitkälahti and Ms Liisa Syväsalmi, whom we have also notified personally.
