Happiness is learning new
Newspaper distribution became part of Kirsi-Minna Saarinen’s life when she worked as a transport business owner and did contract work, among others, for Aamulehti.
—At first, I delivered newspapers to the Forssa region at night, and later to Aamujakelu morning deliverers to Tampere. I spent seven years behind the wheel, after which I took a year totally off delivery work. Later on, I returned to the familiar job, now in the capacity of a newspaper deliverer.
Kirsi-Minna, originally from Orivesi, moved back to her home town after 21 years in Tampere. She still has her job in Tampere as the Distribution Planner at the distribution unit of Alma Manu.
—I changed jobs from newspaper deliverer to Delivery Supervisor in the night shift. When my first child was born, I had a day job as recruitment officer at the then Aamujakelu delivery company. I’ve had my present post as Distribution Planner for about two years now.
Kirsi-Minna’s responsibilities include measuring and planning of delivery districts, creating electronic maps for the districts and planning delivery routes, as well as the creation and maintenance of the electronic delivery book.
—The electronic delivery book has taken up most of my time. I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity to be part of a team that creates something unique. We did pioneering work, because Aamujakelu was the first delivery company in Finland to deploy an electronic delivery book a year ago.
Kirsi-Minna, who has completed a sales management course in addition to her job, enjoys her fast-paced, varied job.
—Alma encourages job rotation. Employees can widen their skill sets and expertise in other tasks than their original ones if they wish.
No job is totally without tough spots.
—Perhaps it is the long job experience that gives me confidence in that everything can be solved if you just go forward systematically even under pressure.
According to Kirsi-Minna, Alma Manu and the delivery organisation in particular are suitable for people who can work short-term and long-term simultaneously, because hardly a day goes by without surprises and challenges.
She considers a well-planned corporate strategy and agreed operating methods that take into account changing situations to be the best guarantee for delivery quality. She describes her own work community as tightly-knit and having a good sense of humour.
—Most of us have a history of more than ten years in distribution and delivery. We regularly get new people in who bring new visions with them. Everyone can voice their opinion, and this type of democracy also makes it easier to take responsibility.
In Kirsi-Minna’s opinion, Alma is a good example of a versatile company that is open to new thoughts and ideas.
—We at Alma have expertise in really many professions, and getting acquainted with the people and work of other departments widens perspectives. I can recommend Alma as an employer offering many opportunities to everyone thinking about starting a career.
