Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy starts personnel cooperation negotiations

Alma Media Corporation      Press release               December 28, 2011 at 2:00pm

POHJOIS-SUOMEN MEDIA OY STARTS PERSONNEL COOPERATION NEGOTIATIONS

Pohjois-Suomen Media Oy (Alma Media Northern Media) will start statutory personnel cooperation negotiations concerning its entire staff. According to a preliminary estimate by the company, its staff may be reduced by a maximum of 9 full-time work years through the measures now planned. Northern Media employs approximately 200 people in the Finnish provinces of Lappi and Kainuu.

The reorganisation aims at preparing for the effect of the value-added tax reform on the circulation income from subscription-based newspapers. An additional aim is to guarantee the profitability and competitiveness of Northern Media, as well as to secure the viability of the newspapers published by the company in future, especially considering the poor outlook for advertising sales in the Kemi and Kajaani regions.

Possible effects in the number of personnel and their allocation to the various personnel groups will become clear as the negotiations proceed.

Northern Media publishes three regional papers- Lapin Kansa, Pohjolan Sanomat and Kainuun Sanomat-as well as five local or city papers.
