ALMA MEDIA TO ESTABLISH INTERNET-BASED DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT COMPANY
ALMA MEDIA STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 23.10.2000 at 11.30 (EET) 1/2 ALMA MEDIA TO ESTABLISH INTERNET-BASED DIGITAL ASSET MANAGEMENT COMPANY Alma Media has established a new digital asset management company called KCRnet Oy that will operate on the Internet. The KCRnet service considerably reduces marketing planning time and makes control of the process easier among the various parties involved. Its customers will be Finnish and international fast-moving consumer goods companies and retailers. At its establishment the new company will be owned 100 % by Alma Media. The company is the product of Alma Media Groups own R&D using a global business model. KCRnet Oy will have an initial share capital of EUR 2 million. Plans call for expansion of its ownership base later through a private placement to international investors. KCRnet will provide an Internet-based service for managing marketing communications material and for designing consumer packages. The new service will make the marketing communications, media advertising and packaging design processes of companies easier and more efficient both internally and with their suppliers. It will be particularly suitable for companies and retail chains operating in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. KCRnet Oy is currently negotiating with certain food manufacturing companies and retail chains to create a new forum for co-operation on the Internet that is open to all but also fully secure. Brand owners will be able to store marketing communications material on their products such as logos, product pictures, consumer packages, digital promotional films and various versions of ready-to-use advertisements on KCRnets servers. This will ensure that the material used in marketing communications and consumer packagings are always up to date and available from a single source. Users can also choose to make the same database available to their suppliers and partners such as media companies, advertising agencies, pre press companies and printers. KCRnets new co-operation model will make brand management faster and more efficient and also reduce the possibility of errors. As a content producer, Alma Media has more than six years of experience in digital asset management. It began developing this business into a new business area two years ago and the first pilot projects were started with selected advertiser customers and advertising agencies one year ago. Since this business was seen as a new growth area, the project was expanded in spring this year to include television and the Groups New Media business units in addition to the print media. Sampo Salonen appointed President Mr Sampo Salonen, previously Executive Vice President of Alprint Oy, has been appointed President of KCRnet Oy. Before joining Alma Media, Salonens previous experience included positions as President of the Finnish subsidiary of the international consumer packaging manufacturer Åkerlund & Rausing Group and President of Paragon Oy. KCRnet Oy will have its offices on Mannerheimintie in the centre of Helsinki. The new company will start operating initially with about 10 employees. Finnish market worth EUR 200 million The Internet is rapidly breaking down barriers between companies and countries and KCRnet has been designed from the outset to serve the value chains in which global companies operate, Mr Salonen says. The digital asset management business is worth more than EUR 200 million in Finland alone, according to Salonen. KCRnets information technology and service concept will help different actors in the retail goods sector achieve considerable savings in marketing communication and package creation processes. KCRnet expects to generate net sales from digital asset management in excess of EUR 15 million within three years. Global food and retail companies have for years been intensifying co-operation in Efficient Consumer Response (ECR). KCRnet (Knowledge based Consumer Response) brings a new dimension to ECR co- operation. KCRnet will target international consumer goods manufacturers and retail chains although the service will offer outstanding benefits to other companies that could benefit from more efficient logistical management of their marketing communications. Companies storing their corporate and brand data using this Internet service as well as b-to-b companies using the data must be completely sure that the systems are secure and that confidential user information does not pass into the wrong hands. KCRnet has given the issue of data security especially high priority. Only registered users are permitted access to the system using user codes and personal passwords. The security level can even be raised, if customers request, to a level higher than that used for on-line payment transactions.
