Maria Jauho appointed Senior Editor-in-Chief of Pohjolan Sanomat

MARIA JAUHO APPOINTED SENIOR EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF POHJOLAN SANOMAT
Maria Jauho, 39, Master of Arts and currently News Editor at Pohjolan Sanomat, has been appointed the new Senior Editor-in-Chief of Pohjolan Sanomat as of 1 July 2014. At that time, Heikki Lääkkölä, the current Senior Editor-in-Chief, will leave the company as agreed in his employment agreement, in order to retire later on.
Since 2006, Jauho has worked as a News Editor at Pohjolan Sanomat and in the joint editorial team of Alma Media’s newspapers in Northern Finland. Before that, she worked as a subeditor and news reporter at Kaleva and as a reporter at Helsingin Sanomat and Aamulehti.
“Pohjolan Sanomat will strengthen its local approach. The significance of local news and local people will be emphasised in our editorial. We want to remain close to the reader,” promises Maria Jauho, the future Senior Editor-in-Chief.
Heikki Lääkkölä has worked as the Senior Editor-in-Chief of Pohjolan Sanomat since 1996 and has been employed by the newspaper since 1977.
According to Lääkkölä, Pohjolan Sanomat, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015, has maintained its position as the most important medium in the Kemi-Tornio region and the lower Tornionlaakso area. The ongoing transformation process at the newspaper enables the production of quality local journalism for both the printed newspaper and the online service in the future as well.
Pohjolan Sanomat belongs to the Alma Regional Media product family which, in addition to Pohjolan Sanomat, includes four regional newspapers, 17 local subscription papers and nine town papers in different parts of Finland.
