KESKO AND ALMA MEDIA TO FORM AN ALLIANCE OF E-COMMERCE

ALMA MEDIA CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 17.03.2000 AT 10.00 KESKO CORPORATION KESKO AND ALMA MEDIA TO FORM AN ALLIANCE OF E-COMMERCE Alma Media and Citymarket are boosting the expansion of Internet connections in Finland by introducing an overall package to be offered for customers against a fixed monthly payment. This package will contain both a computer and an Internet connection, and it will be offered by all Citymarket hypermarkets. The aim of this cooperation is to increase the number of Internet home connections and to boost the expansion of e-commerce in Finland. This agreement is related to a campaign started in August 1999 ("Internet for people"). Thousands of computers furnished with a MTV3 Internet connection have been sold by Citymarkets during the campaign. The Internet services provided through k-netti.com and www.mtv3.fi form a cornerstone of the cooperation between Kesko Corporation and Alma Media Corporation. According to the agreement, Kesko and Alma Media will strengthen each other’s position in the area of Internet operations by adding their key strengths to the MTV3 Internet connection. Kesko’s contribution is its expertise in e-commerce and that of Alma Media the competence in content production. "Kesko and MTV3 Internet have already shown, during the cooperation started in August 1999, that the cooperation of brands is fruitful, in the area of new technology and media in particular," says Director Matti Laamanen of Kesko. "People’s suspicions about a new service will decrease when two reliable and financially sound companies are together offering Internet and other useful services relating to it," adds Laamanen. "Alma Media’s strategy is to establish direct connections with media customers. By working together with Finland’s leading companies and by adding well-known, reliable brand products to electronic commerce, we can expand these operations in Finland, says Director Jukka Mauno of MTV3 Internet. As Kesko and MTV3 are among the most famous Finnish companies, they form an excellent alliance for promoting the confidence of consumers in the Internet trading. Kesko is Finland’s leading company in the trading sector. Citymarket Oy is Kesko’s wholly-owned subsidiary, which has about 40 hypermarkets operating throughout the country. Kesko’s net sales for 1999 amounted to about FIM 36 billion, and the total sales of Citymarket hypermarkets were nearly FIM 7 billion. Alma Media is Finland’s leading new media content producer, and its online media are used by over 480,000 visitors each week (source WTM/IMR/Alma Media). The biggest online media are MTV3 Internet, Iltalehti Online and Kauppalehti Online. Alma Media’s distribution channels cover all media; newspapers and magazines, TV, radio, Internet and mobile services, including the WAP products.
