Terms and Conditions

Magazines

Arvoasunto, Arvopaperi, Fakta, Kauppalehti Optio, Metallitekniikka, Mikrobitti, Talouselämä and Tivi. Pictures and graphics should be high resolution CMYK pictures (300 dpi) as EPS, JPG or TIFF file types.

Tabloids

Kauppalehti, Markkinointi&Mainonta, Mediuutiset and Tekniikka&Talous. Pictures and graphics should be high resolution CMYK pictures (220 dpi) as EPS, JPG or TIFF file types.

File format

Materials must be submitted in print-ready PDF files, at least version Acrobat 5 (PDF1.4). Images are recommended to be delivered in CMYK format, graphics and logos in CMYK color model. None of the following elements: RGB or Index colors, ICC profiles, OPI-links e.g. Materials will be archived for maximum period of three months.

Please note! Ads printed in Magazines and Markkinointi&Mainonta: bleed 5mm and corner marks. Inner marginal recommendation 10mm.

Fonts

Fonts must be embedded in the PDF file.

Typefaces to be used

We recommend the use of Adobe’s typeface trimmings. TrueType trimmings cannot be used. The texts should be converted to paths, if possible. We do not recommend font sizes under 12 points in the Tabloid magazines.

Separation recommendations

Newspaper alleviation must be noted in the construction of the material. Total color coverage 240 %. Dot spread in middle tones 22 %. Profile to be used e.g. ISOnewspaper26v4. Dot value in Kauppalehti 3-90 %.

We recommend 75 % achromatic (GCR) separation.

Maxim black at least 85 %, already beginning at the light tones. (Black begins, when Cyan is 5%)

We do not recommend the use of 4 black colors or the use of negatexts or elements with too small fonts because of the alignment variation of the used printing method.

We reserve the right to change color concentration to suit better with the printing process.

Impression based campaigns

The amount of delivered impressions are being followed with the Ad hosting program used by Alma Media. If the campaign gets under 95 % of the agreed impressions, the campaign is either continued until all the impressions are delivered or the missing impressions are compensated in the customer's next campaign.

HTML5 ad materials from a third party tag cannot be utilized for campaigns targeted via the Almascope tool. You can find the instruction for HTML5 materials below.

General guidelines for using video and sound

The ad can contain sound. The sound is being played with a 0.5 second lag, after the user takes their mouse on the ad and ends, once the user moves the mouse away from the ad. If the ad contains video with auto-play, the video must start without sound. The user must also be able to close the video.

We recommend advertisers to use the standardized video ad solutions of Alma Media. The guidelines for these formats can be found below. If the advertiser wish to use video in other ad formats, please note that the ad must fulfill the requirements for that specific ad spot.

HTML5 materials

After September 2015, the support for Flash has degreased rapidly. We recommend using HMTL5 for animated banner ads.

Flash materials

Flash materials will no longer function on Google Chrome -browser after the beginning of September 2015. If you have any questions regarding the functioning of Flash materials or delivering html5-materials, please contact digimainonta.almatalent(a)almamedia.fi. You can find the instructions for HTML5 materials above.

Flash ads can only be shown in browsers with Adobe Flash Player 8 or newer version installed. In other browsers, a backup version (normal GIF-/JPEG-banner) is shown.

Flash campaigns must include:

  • One or more Flash-creatives
  • Back-up banner images for each Flash-creative
  • The campaign's target URL address
  • Information on which Flash Player version is required for viewing

How to link your Flash movie to the right URL address:

1. In Flash, change your Button Symbol's ActionSript getURL code, from on(release) {getURL("http://www.server.com","_blank")} to on (release) { getURL(_root.clickTAG, "_blank") }

Note that the clickTAG has to be in expression form (without quotation marks). Do not put any URL addresses inside the Flash file.

NOTE ! If the material includes several links:

Create a separate clickTAG for each link. Example: on (release) {getURL(_root.clickTAG1, "_blank")} on (release) {getURL(_root.clickTAG2, "_blank")} on (release) {getURL(_root.clickTAG3, "_blank")}

Do not forget to clarify the addresses for each clickTAG, for example: clickTAG1 links to: www.kauppalehti.fi/omasalkku clickTAG2 links to: www.kauppalehti.fi/analyysit clickTAG3 links to: www.kauppalehti.fi

2. Create a gif/jpeg version for every Flash file. This backup banner version is shown in browsers without Flash support.

3. Include the campaign target URL and information on the Flash Player version needed to view the material. A separate HTML file ("sniffer") is not needed.

NOTE ! Only use clickTAGs in Action Script 2 form (not Action Script 3). We cannot guarantee click counting functionality and the opening of target pages for Action Script 3.

Giant Video Panorama

When Alma is making the technical execution for the ad and hosting it

  • Alma offers the Giant Video Panorama as a ready-made-solutions. The package includes hosting the video, compiling the parts of the ad together and converting the video in the correct format.
  • The Giant Video Panorama includes the following parts:
    • The background image
    • The starting screen image, by clicking on it, the user starts the video
    • The video
    • The image shown after the video (not mandatory, but highly recommended)
  • The video will be placed on the right side of the Giant Panorama. See the format here
  • The information regarding the interaction with the video will be presented in the campaign report (play, pause, ended)
  • Upon request, we can add impression tracking, click tracing and an awareness study to the Giant Video Panorama
  • The background image and the image shown after the video can be directed to separate addresses

Dominance = Giant Panorama + Skyscraper + Double Giant Box

Wallpaper

  • The size of the wallpaper is 1,600 x 1,200 px. Two versions of the wallpaper are needed for different sections.
  • News-section: width of the news content area is 1,170 px and wallpaper is shown 215 px on the left side and 215 px on the right side. See an example here

  • In the other sections of the site (e.g. Stock): width of the content area is 996 px and wallpaper is shown on the left side 302 px and on the right side 302 px. See an example here

  • Both materials need to be delivered for ROS-campaigns, which are shown throughout the Kauppalehti.fi-site.

Wallpaper is always being sold as a package: Wallpaper + Giant Panorama or Wallpaper + Panorama.

Technical instructions for Wallpaper

  • Dimensions: 1,600 x 1,200 px
  • Size: 300 kb max

Format: GIF, JPG, PNG, HTML5-zip (see also HTML5 instructions), third party tag or Flash + backup picture.

Giant Panorama

  • Dimensions: 980 x 400 px
  • Size: 80 kb

Panorama

  • Dimensions: 980 x 120 px or 980 x 160 px
  • Size: 40 kb

We do not recommend to leave a blank space in the middle of the wallpaper. In JPG and Flash formats this does not really decrease the size of the file.

Dynamic wallpaper is locked around the content area, so that the wallpaper is being shown all the time when browsing through the site (the wallpaper is not repeated). Adding a background color around the wallpaper is possible. In such case, please add to your material submission e-mail the hex-code of the background color (eg. #ffffff).

The core message or call-to-action should be included in the panorama/giant panorama. The possible supporting message should be located in the upper part of the wallpaper, close to the news content area. This is due to the fact that on some smaller screens, the side of the wallpaper might not show at all or it is being displayed only partly.

A dynamic, clickable wallpaper should contain a call-to-action, which guides the user to click. The creative should be subtle and it needs to be approved by Alma Talent at least five (5) days prior to the launch date of the campaign. Alma Talent reserves the right to ask for modifications on the creative.

Quick Link

A Quick Link ad includes three parts: heading, a short ad-text and an URL. A company logo can also be included in the Quick Link.

Maximum character counts:

  • Heading: max. 20 characters
  • Ad-text: max. 50 characters
  • The shown www-address: max. 20 characters.

Logo: size 145 x 40 px, max 15 kb, formats: GIF, JPEG, PNG

The heading is bolded in the ad. The copy-text below the heading cannot include any effects, such as bolding or highlighting. The URL is shown below the copy text and the possible logo is being placed above the heading.

In addition, a target address for directing clicks on the link is required. The target URL may be the same as the web address shown in the ad. The character count of the target URL is not limited. The ad copy is wrapped automatically.

Discussion Board Takeover

Discussion Board Takeover includes the following ad spots:

  1. Panorama: 980 x 120 px, max. 40 kb.
  2. Skyscraper: 160 x 600 px, max. 40 kb.
  3. Text-link: One sentence that can be fit on a single short row + target address (to which the link the text-link directs)

Rich Media

The Rich Media solutions for mobile function on iOS and Android phones as well as on some version of Windows phones. The advertisements are targeted to be shown only on devices with full functioning. All Rich Media solutions can be places on any of the ad placements (excluding interstitial).

3D Swipe Cube

  • A horizontally spinning cube, with 3-5 pages as the sides of the cube
  • The cube spins once automatically, after which the user can spin the cube manually by swiping on the screen
  • The cube can have separate links on each side, click-to-call, click-to-SMS, click-to-video, click-to-store, online video, Facebook, Twitter or Google+ 'like'-button
  • The ad can also be produced as a general swipe cube where the cube will not spin by itself and the swiping must be done manually.

Technical Instructions

  • Ad size: 600x600 px (material coming from a 3rd party tag must be in size 300x300 px)
  • Maximum size of one image: 60 kb
  • File format: PNG, JPEG or GIF
  • The advertiser delivers all the links and/or other material wanted for the ad
  • Links: each page can have their own links or all the sides of the cube can be directed to the same address
  • Alma Talent creates the ad from the material delivered by the advertiser, without additional costs

Half 3D Swipe Cube

  • Ad format, where half of the banner is a static image and the other half is a spinning cube
  • Works well in a situation, where the advertiser wishes to present different products and simultaneously keep the contact information visible

Technical Instructions

  • A background image of 600 x 600 px, with bottom half empty

  • The background image in the video should be the same size as the space reserved for the video

Easyvideo

  • A video ad which is built for the advertiser
  • Half of the ad is video and half is a static image
  • Video starts automatically and the sound can be set on by clicking
  • The static part of the ad can be linked to a landing page
  • The ad is not shown on Windows-phones

  • Video: MP4 (Codec H.264, Audio codec AAC, video resolution 640 x 360 px)
  • Size of the video: maximum 10 MB, no limitations for the duration of the video
  • The first screen should not be black
  • Ad size: 300 x 250 px
  • Logo: height max. 50 px and width max 80 px
  • Size of the logo-image: max 20 kb
  • Format: PNG
  • Slogan (call-to-action): max. 60 characters
  • Background color: #000000
  • Link: The target where the user is being directed when clicking the ad

Store Locator

  • A click on the banner opens a view of a map showing the nearest store for the user
  • The user can navigate to the store, call the advertiser or click to a mobile-site

Technical Instructions

  • Image material: 600x600 px image, maximum file size 60 kb
  • File format: PNG, JPEG or GIF
  • The information for the stores needs to be filled in an Excel-file
  • In addition the advertisers needs to submit the names and addresses for all the stores located in the map
  • The colors of the elements in the map can be modified
  • Alma Talent creates the advertisement of the material submitted by the advertiser, without additional costs

Guide for listing the stores:

  • Required information: name of the store, address, zip-code and city
  • Optional information: latitude and longitude coordinates, phone number, e-mail address and website
  • Custom information: additional information such as opening hours, special offers etc.

Calendar ad

  • By clicking the banner, a calendar notification opens up, which the user can then save on their phone

Technical Instructions

  • Image of 600 x 600 px (ad material coming from a 3rd party tag must be 300 x 300 px)
  • Maximum size 60 kb
  • File format: JPG, PNG or GIF

The advertiser submits the material for which the calendar notification should be applied to (see Mobile Panorama or 3D Swipe Cube) and the information for the calendar notification:

  • The headline
  • The text content
  • The beginning and ending times for the event
  • The notification time, e.g. half an hour prior to the event

Scratch Surface

  • An ad, where the user can “scratch” (= wipe) the surface of the ad
  • The surface can be e.g. rain, ice, dirt, scratch lottery ticket etc. The clickable ad will be place underneath the scratchable surface

Technical Instructions

  • Two images of 600 x 600 px. The other image should be the one to be scratched and the other one the banner ad underneath
  • Format: PNG, JPG or GIF
  • The scratchable image should have a clear call-to-action to scratch the surface
  • Links: the target to which the user is being directed after clicking the ad underneath

Interstitial

  • Interstitial is a full page ad, shown in between the content pages
  • The ad can be shown on Android and iOS apps as well as in the app.kauppalehti.fi news feed
  • The ad cannot be shown in the Windows-app.
  • In the iOS app the swiping happens vertically, in the Android app as well as in browser version horizontally
  • Impression amounts cannot be estimated before the completion of the campaign
