Economic responsibility

Kauppalehti supports Finnish entrepreneurship

We at Kauppalehti defined the cornerstones of our corporate responsibility in 2009. The work involved putting in writing many things we have been doing in practice for more than 110 years. As concerns economic responsibility, our mission is to promote the well-being and prosperity of Finland and its people. Our editorial policy supports entrepreneurship, which is essential for creating new jobs in Finland.

Good examples of the ways we encourage entrepreneurs are our Achievers and Growth Entrepreneur concepts. The Achievers series is familiar to our Finnish readers since more than ten years. It presents the nation's most successful companies by province ranked on the basis of financial analyses by our analysis unit Balance Consulting. The story expands online, and the series culminates in Kauppalehti's Achievers supplement. The series has received positive feedback not least because of its optimistic approach: someone will always be succesful, even in a downturn.

The Growers series encourages entrepreneurs to grow their businesses by highlighting the best growing companies in Finland. We select the best SMEs by region and award them at our Growers events. The story of the Growers also continues online.

The Finnish economy is at present in a turmoil, and new growth requires new approaches. The old wooden and metal support legs won't hold any longer, and it's no use waiting for a new Nokia. We need hundreds of quickly growing new Nokias, in industry and in the service business. Research shows that growth companies also create the most jobs.

There are many obstacles in the way of the growth of a company. They can relate as much to financing as to attitudes. Far too few SMEs want to grow and become international. Now, if ever, a hunger for growth and a passion for entrepreneurship are needed. Kauppalehti wants to be a contributor to creating this passion.
